Summer in New Prague and Belle Plaine is celebrated with a profusion of family-friendly events and activities. Some activities and events are free, and others have associated fees. We’ve rounded up a list of our favorites for the summer of 2021.

Summer Family-Friendly Events & Fairs in New Prague and Belle Plaine

9th Annual Lions Fly-In Breakfast – Airlake Airport

The 9th Annual Lions Fly-In Breakfast – Airlake Airport is Sunday, July 11, starting at 8 am. Pilots from all over the state fly in to have breakfast and enjoy all the planes. This year is special as the Lions have confirmed (weather permitting) the appearance of the Minnesota Commemorative Air Force (CAF) “Warbirds.” The CAF will fly in the pride of the fleet, a WWII-era North American B-25J Mitchell – Miss Mitchell.

Belle Plaine BBQ Days 2021

BBQ Days is an annual festival held during the third weekend of July. This year the festival runs July 16-18, 2021. There’s a parade with a 70’s theme on July 17 at noon.

Scott County Fair

The Scott County Fair is one of the most exciting family activities of the summer. In 2021 the fair is being held July 18 – August 1, 2021. Thursday is kids’ day at the fair. The Carnival opens at noon on Thursday, and there are unlimited rides with a $20 wristband.

Le Sueur County Free Fair

The Le Sueur County Free Fair is August 19 – 22, 2021. Check out the food, 4-H projects, and livestock at this fair. At the time of creating this post, details were forthcoming, so click on the link and check out the fair website for more details.

New Prague Dozinky Festival 2021

The New Prague Dozinky Festival scheduled for September 18th, 2021, is a Czech Harvest Festival patterned after the “Old Country” original, which is held on the third full weekend of September each year in New Prague. Main Street is transformed into an open-air market plus there’s a parade, dancing, and plenty of activities to take advantage of for fun.

Summer Family Activities

Belle Plaine Aquatic Center

The Belle Plaine Aquatic Center keeps people of all ages cool all summer long. A toddler slide, play structures, diving board, zero-depth entry, concessions, and pool house means there’s fun for everyone at this popular summer spot. Belle Plaine residents receive a discount.

New Prague Fitness Aquatic Center

The New Prague Fitness & Aquatic Center is now open to non-members. The Center is accepting same-day daily admission reservations for Open Gym & Open Swim. This is the perfect backup for a rainy day when you want to swim, but the weather isn’t cooperating.

Elko Speedway and Drive-In

Memories & Milestones Academy loves the Elko Speedway so much that we sponsor a car! Elko features Eve of Destruction® events, NASCAR racing on a 3/8 mile asphalt oval track, and a Drive-In movie theater.

Enjoy a Park

Our extensive local park systems offer a variety of summer activities. You can hike, bird watch, have a picnic, play ball, or enjoy the scenery. Each park has something unique so do a little exploring to find what works for everyone in your family. Here’s a handy link for Belle Plaine parks and one for New Prague parks.

Visit the Library

Our local library system is a terrific way to continue learning and reading over the summer months. Plus, it’s just fun to explore our world through everything the library has to offer. Check out a book, DVD, or attend an event. There’s a reason people have enjoyed libraries for decades. Starting June 1, the library system is expected to expand walk-in hours. Everyone Loves Ice Cream

Just talking about ice cream makes us happy. Summer is the perfect time to grab an ice cream cone or shake. Or make your own ice cream at home if you have the right recipe. Just remember to give yourself enough time for all the freezing stages.

Speaking of ice cream, almost all of the recommendations above go well with ice cream. Whether you grab your favorite cone at the local fair or swing by your favorite ice cream spot on the way home from the speedway, we hope you truly enjoy the summer of 2021!
